Barnstable is the largest community on Cape Cod. Each year, more than 4 million visitors pass through, heading to the Cape Cod National Seashore. On summer weekends, Hyannis village, Route 6 and Route 28 frequently see traffic jams and crashes. Under Massachusetts law, drivers are required to carry a minimum amount of car insurance set by the state. If you have been injured, you may have the right to seek compensation from the at-fault driver, as well as any others who may be responsible.
Alcohol can play a role in car accidents. When it does, a drunk driver who causes injury and any establishment which served them may be held liable. A private homeowner can also be held liable if they served an underage driver.
The Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority (CCRTA) and tourist buses provide bus service on Cape Cod. Bus companies are known as common carriers and have a heightened duty of care to passengers. Bus drivers carry a great deal of the responsibility, so every driver must be properly trained and committed to following safety protocols, such as no cell phone use.
If you have been injured in a car accident, our personal injury lawyers can advise you of your rights.

There were 28 car crashes reported at Pitchers Way and Falmouth Road over the three-year reporting period, including one fatal crash.
Barnstable Bicycle Accident Lawyers
Breakstone, White & Gluck has represented cyclists who have been injured across Massachusetts, including in Barnstable, Sandwich, Mashpee and Yarmouth.
Many Cape Cod residents travel by bike. As the number of cyclists rises, so has traffic congestion and bicycle accidents. From 2010 to 2012, MassDOT received over 300 reports of bike crashes on Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. Most of the Cape Cod bike crashes occurred during June, July, August and September.
During this time, two cyclists were tragically killed in bicycle crashes, including a seasonal restaurant worker riding home from work. She was hit by two cars at the intersection of Falmouth Road (Route 28) and Pitcher's Way.
In June 2019, the Cape Cod Commission updated its report on top crash locations. But Route 28 and downtown Hyannis remain a top crash location for cyclists.
The good news is local communities, business organizations and the state are working to make Cape Cod safer for cyclists. In July 2017, Gov. Charlie Baker and Cape Cod lawmakers celebrated the Cape Cod Rail Trail extension in Dennis. Pedestrians will benefit from this project too; it includes a new pedestrian bridge over the Bass River on Route 134.

There are no state-approved trauma centers on Cape Cod. In many cases, patients have serious injuries and need to be flown to Boston by medical helicopter.
